Native American art and culture is easy to bring to life with the iPad. The iPad is a perfect vehicle for teaching children all about Native Americans. There is a fascinating and often overlooked history of American Indian nations along with the contemporary challenges facing native communities across the Western Hemisphere still today.

Below are my favorite completely free iPad apps all about the history of the United States and Native American history.

PowWows is a great app that features articles and videos all about Native Americans

First Peoples of North America an amazing app that chronicles all 800 registered Indian tribes in the United States

Navajo Toddler teaches the language Lakota to children with flashcards and videos

Chickasaw Language great interactive iPad app that teaches the Chickasaw language

Ho-Chunk Native this app teaches not only the language but information about history and life today

World Cultures this is probably my favorite iPad app because it brings to life cultures of the world through artifacts and photos From the Hudson Museums World Cultures Collection.
