Of course your teenager
doesn't text with you in the passenger seat, of course she
doesn't do a big smoky burnout while you stand in the
driveway, but have you ever wondered what happens when she
turns the corner? There are all kinds of ways to see how
drivers perform once your backs are turned.
Street Eyes: A private eye
sounds pricey but there is a company called Street Eyes
that has rates as low as $30 per 20 min. session. Street
eyes will have its operators follow at a discreet distance,
film your teenagers car, capture speed and performance,
and report back to you.
GPS Options: There is a product called
Sky Link Protect that allows parents to set up geo-fences
and speed alerts. It can function as a vehicle locator if
your car is stolen as well. It allows parents to unlock
the door and track speed, acceleration, and visually map
where child is at all times.
Safeco insurance has a program called teen assurance. The
GPS unit must be a professionally installed and allows
parents to instantly locate the car, set speed reminders,
set up safe driving zones called geo-fences, and notify
parents via e-mail or telephone when the car goes over 61
mi./h. The system cost $200 with a $19 monthly fee.
American Family Insurance has the only zero cost program I
could find. They will install in your child's car an
interior – video system. They will monitor the system
for you and report back to you once a month how your child
could improve their driving. Of course you have to buy
American family insurance than to put it in your car, but
it is the only zero cost option I could find out there.
